Present Projects

I have been in quite the funk lately. I know that my sewing room is a mess, and I am using that as an excuse to not sew anything. However I just found out what the heck is wrong with me, well ok part of me.

I was telling a friend how I have been in a funk and every time I go into my sewing room I just lose focuse and don’t want to sew. She gave me the best advice one can offer. Its so simple and yet I didn’t even think about it. She said that the Amish say “Enjoy your present project and don’t think about what the next one is.” For some reason that really hit home, and I totally understanding it all. I have so many things right now that I am working on, between holiday stuff, applique, a quilt for a customer (with no time limit) and my own stuff on top of that, that I was beginning to feel so lost and overwhelmed. I didn’t even want to sew anything or look at anything. I had totally lost what is my present project and was only thinking about what all needed to be done.

So with this wonderful advice, which I have written on paper and posted above my sewing machine, I am going to set a side anything and everything that is not my present project and not even worry about it or look at it.

Sometimes we just need a reminder of where we should shine the light.

I am going to work on adding some links and tags into my blog, but I believe this is going to be a lengthy project to indure. So I will do my best to get this done, it will surely make things simpliar to go back and find things.

Creativity Leads to a Mess

I have been trying my hardest to use only fabric and scraps that I already own. Anyone who is a quilter knows how hard it is to stay away from the quilt shops and NOT buy.

Right now I have so many things that I am working on, and my brain is just about fried when I walk into my sewing room and ask myself what should I work on today? I think some of my UGH! moments are coming from the HUGE mess that I have created in my sewing room due to using what I have have and not buying more.
Here is a picture of what I am currently up against.

This is only part of the mess, I am talking about. The other half is where my quilting frame is located and because of this mess it makes it hard to get to. I have table toppers that I need to quilt, but I don’t want to cause I have to clean this mess up first.

I have dug thru this fabric so many times that it is just all over the place. So between stepping over the dog and my disorganized creativity, something has to give.

So I believe that today I will be cleaning this up and trying to find a way to make it all work. I have conatiners that I tend to put my scraps in, but then I dig through them to find what ever it is that I am looking for and after so many times of that, its just easier to have it out all over the place, as it is right now. What do you do to make this work for you? How do you keep your scraps and not so large pieces from becoming a huge mess? I would like to hear some suggestions on how I can keep up with this.
